Esperpento (“monstrosity” in Spanish) is a visually charged universe of decadence inspired by Francisco Goya’s Los Caprichos paintings. Rather than the “monster” critiquing societal ills, Morales embraces strangeness and deformity in order to challenge conventions of beauty, familiarity, and normalcy.
